This isn’t easy to write so I’m just going to rip off the bandaid. Well, the subject line kinda already did but whatevs. Maybe us locals have gotten quite used to things being rescheduled, canceled or broadcast online. Being used to this bizarre new normal doesn’t make it any easier when it comes to BYOBW. Hopes were had that since the event is outdoors and so many of y’all bozos are wearing festive costumes that we could all just mask up and get less hay in our faces for once…but it’s just not doable. Let’s all continue to be safe and look out for each other and we will definitely absolutely roll down those Vermont curves again.
Funding update: The city ate our street closure permit fee for the 2020 event and I was told they wouldn’t refund 2021 either if I submitted for approval and events were still on hold. Well, present me can pat past me on the back for not rolling those dice. I did decide to make a donation to the Equine Rescue Center who was going to take our hay because they would be missing out on 120 bales from us this year and those sweet horseys need to eat. Thankfully all of our other costs were either transferable to a future year or refunded so we are in a melancholic “lets look at the silver lining” holding pattern at about 75% of costs being covered for HOPEFULLY, crossing fingers and toes, 2022. And you better believe I’m going to have the super cool 2020 stickers and patches available the year we are finally able to GET IT ON. If you feel moved to donate for the next event, big hugs in advance.
I know this website is super 90s style (or lacking any style) but I don’t think you come here because it’s fancy. I’m just going to close out this post by slapping down some great photos from the talented photographer and long time Big Wheeler Bhautik Joshi. Let’s remember the good times. Start sourcing your Big Wheels and super elaborate costumes now while you’ve got plenty of time to slim down for that lime colored man-kini. O_o
