Pot O Gold!

What a rad event was had this year! The weather was a little drippy but we still had an awesome time. And holy cow there was such a great group of children and their parents that participated in the kids hour. I have to say that my favorites were Batman with his dad Robin and possibly the littlest of the littles Isha, on her first ride with her 10 year BYOBW veteran dad Bhautik.

Whoo buddy…I’m incredibly relieved to report that between we were able to cover all of our costs this year and have enough leftover to get the city permit process started for 2018. This was made possible because of the generous donations from BYOBW’s rider base. Thank you so much for believing in this event as much as I do. Of course we’ll need to do this whole fundraising effort again next year but for now we are solidly able to move forward with 2018 planning.

Something you can’t put a price on though is our volunteers who help sling hay bales, run the registration table, help with crowd control, our EMTs to check out your boo boos, and those masochists who stay until after dark cleaning up all the ditched garbage and abandoned trikes. We are out there with push brooms filling bags of trash while getting eaten by mosquitos and we don’t leave until the neighborhood is cleaner than we left it. What a superb group of humans give their time each year to help make the event go smoothly. Mad props to the volunteers.

Speaking of garbage, there is always an entire truckload of Big Wheels and plastic pieces leftover and we have to truck all that away to the dump. You came with a Big Wheel, beverages, snacks and your banana costume or tutu and you can leave with at least that much. Those of you who live close, grab a bag and fill it up and take it home. We can do better people. I believe in you.

For now we go into stasis until 2018 event prep starts in October. Of course we accept donations year round so if you find yourself flush please remember the permagrin you had the entire afternoon of Bring Your Own Big Wheel and throw us some dough.
